Case Studies/Results
The Client...
Meals on Wheels
The Situation...
- Meals On Wheels delivers meals to more than 400 needy seniors a day in Seminole County, Florida.
- Unfortunately, there are still more than 200 needy seniors on their waiting list.
- Meals On Wheels conducts a "March For Meals" fund raising event every March to raise money to feed more hungry seniors.
- The March includes a 3-mile walk and a breakfast at a community center afterwards.
- In the past, not enough people supported the "March For Meals" to meet the needs (a little more than 100 people attended)
The Change...
Meals on Wheels Hired Stephenson & Associates
Our Analysis...
- Needed to get more large companies to sponsor the “March For Meals”
- Needed to get more people to donate and participate in the “March For Meals” event.
- Needed to approach corporate sponsors much earlier in the year to be included in their budget planning.
- Needed to find cost-efficient ways to advertise the event to more of Central Florida.
The Solution...
"Getting More People & Companies In Step With the March"
Marketing Strategy — Part One...
- The agency went to work and created an attention-getting concept to build awareness of the March For Meals
- We then helped change Meals On Wheels website so making donations and signing up to participate in the event could be done on line.
- Then we created a 6-panel, 4-color brochure built around the new concept.
- The brochure provided information on the benefits of company sponsorship and individual participation.

- The agency also created attention-getting ads to build awareness of the March For Meals around Central Florida
- We placed the ads in Seminole County magazines and the Friday Calendar Section of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

Marketing Strategy — Part Three...
- To build corporate sponsorship and participation for the March For Meals, the agency recommended using television
- We knew that many corporations would like to get their company name on television, especially if it could be associated with such a worthy cause as Meals On Wheels. So we created a Corporate Television Sponsorship Program for the March For Meals
- First we created a 15-second television commercial that promoted the March and left room on the end of the commercial to display the name of a corporate sponsor.
- Next, we negotiated with a local network television station for cost-effective weekly buys that included top rated shows like Oprah Winfrey.
- Meals personnel then approached several corporations and presented them our idea: become a presenting sponsor and they would have their name in all the March For Meals advertising and on a television commercial for a week.
- Two corporations immediately signed on and became presenting sponsors. Click below to see the television commercial with one of the corporate sponsors listed at the end.

- Participation in the March For Meals event went from 100 people to over 500 people.
- Corporate sponsorship participation and contributions rose significantly.
- Individual donations also grew significantly
- And donations were still coming in on line two months after the March For Meals event had taken place.
